Review
A lot of non-technical founders let themselves get paralyzed. "Coding is something that other people do. I just need to find a developer. Can you be my technical co-founder?" Not Tracy. When her startup needed a programmer she rolled up her sleeves and taught herself Python. In addition to being an inspiring founder, I love how she fuses the standard startup playbook with lateral thinking from her design background -- what other startup do you know that would publish a coffee table book (!) to get more customers? --Patrick McKenzie, Kalzumeus Software

This is one of the best tutorials I've seen. It's really hands-on, it's very actionable, it's extremely well written, and it looks gorgeous. This book is my go-to pick for when people ask what's the best way to learn Django. --Jacob Kaplan-Moss, core contributor to Django

Hello Web App is a great introduction to the Django framework that s easy-to-understand and super-useful to beginner Djangonauts. --Kenneth Love, Treehouse

Great for learners; I used it to easily and successfully build my first web app!
By Adrienne N. Lowe
This book does exactly what it promises: it teaches you enough about Python/Django, the command line, and other tools in order to make a viable first, basic web app. Even better? If you use this book, you'll actually enjoy doing it.

I'm a new developer who used the book to lay the foundation for a larger project. As I stepped through my own requirements, I realized that some of things I learned from the book (like the robust admin) weren't necessarily needed in my own project, which was a simple Django app to use APIs to grab info from Wikipedia and Twitter. But then I went on to build something else, and I was really glad that I got the thorough introduction to the admin.

The author's style is clear and direct, using plain, easy-to-understand language. She does not assume a background in computer science, or even that you've had any experience with other programming tutorials. She only states that knowing the basics of CSS and HTML (which you can learn in an hour or so for free with Codecademy) will make things easier for you. I found this to be fair and true.

Now I have the second book, Hello Web App: Intermediate Concepts, and I am quite frankly amazed and thrilled with everything she has been able to cover in one slim volume. I recommend getting them both together to build an exciting, dynamic, user-friendly new project!

Stop thinking about your idea - and build it
By Olya
When you've got an idea for an app and haven't done "real development" it can be completely overwhelming to figure out where to start. Most tutorials focus on singular code samples ("how to print hello world") but don't really teach you how to truly start your own application.

Hello Web App is written around this concept - how to practically, quickly, and manageably create your first web app.

This is a fantastic guide for anyone who is not a developer and has an idea that they wish they could build. The format - "collection of things" - is incredibly flexible and gives you a fast and easy way to start "sketching" out your application without getting overwhelmed by a lot of technology.

For me, Hello Web App got me to build my first web app that has been sitting in my head for 7 years. If you have a similarly nagging concept/thought that you wish you could implement, pull the trigger and get this book.

Perfect guide for beginner programmers
By Andrey Petrov
In a world where all of the programming resources are written for other programmers, it's refreshing to have a guide to bridge the gap for people who are just getting into the space.

Lots of crisp screenshots, clear code examples, easy to follow narrative. Most importantly, Hello Web App emphasizes building something tangible early on so that you're motivated by your creations and keep moving forward. Recommending this book to anyone I know who has been trying to learn how to code and build web applications.
