Big ol' bag of BULL.

First off, if I could give this book 0 stars, I would. Second, notice the title refers to the things black women do to mess up their lives, but all TEN mistakes are about relationships. Last I checked, women make a whooooole lot of mistakes than just sleeping with other people's men. Oops! I forgot - all black women are out to do is get rich, black husbands.

Also, there is NOTHING in this book that solely relates to black women. This easily could've been written by a woman of any race, directed to an audience of any race. The only thing Dr. Cornish mentioned that's even remotely ethnic-related was skin color, the light versus dark angle. But guess what - replace "light" and "dark" with "skinny" and "fat" and you're right back to the issues that ALL of us face as women. Is this woman honestly trying to tell us that only BLACK women sleep with married men, or sleep with men too soon, or rush into marriage too early? Please. Cornish touches very briefly on the issues of interracial relationships as well a VERY short mention on bisexual men. The way she was able to cram in so much homophobia on just a couple of short pages is a talent, indeed. As for white men, I'll spoil it for you - if the relationship the woman is having during of Cornish's little stories is ANYTHING but a black man, the dude is evil.

My problem isn't with the poor writing, the constant mention of her other book, or the repeated mentions of her TV show, the HORRIBLY annoying rhyming titles that are on EVERY...FRIGGING...PAGE, or the fact that Dr. Cornish doesn't even bother to discuss WHY some women act as they do (the only childhood trauma she touches on is her own), or the fact that some single woman is trying to tell other single women how to have successful relationships. (What's next? Is Oprah going to write a book about parenting?) My problem is her writing a general relationship advice book with was full of nothing but "no DUH" kind of so-called tips (don't sleep with a married man? WHOA, NO KIDDING!) and then pushing it off as a book solely for women of color. By painting us as a bunch of needy, gold-digging, colorstruck idiots, Dr. Cornish is no better than the TV producer she berates so heavily in the first chapter.

Excellent book Every Black woman should read

I picked this book up after a friend suggested I read it. I read a chapter a day until I finished the book. Dr. Cornish compiled some things we as black women tend to do (she even admitted making some of the same bad choices) outlines the problems, and offers wonderful suggestion to help us STOP making the same bad choices. Bottom line is you have to be willing to hold yourself accountable and admit you are making these mistakes, and be willing to stop them. She will tug at your heart when she discusses the deaths of her mother and Aunt to men, and discusses how their bad choices played a role in their deaths. Six out of every black woman are either in bad relationships, share a man or choose to be celibate. Are you one of those six women? I also feel this book is not just for black women. I think any woman can read this book and find something in this book they can use to help them make wiser life choices.

In this book she will discuss:

1. Sisters Dissin Sisters ?
I wish every black woman would read this chapter!!! It's time for the madness to stop!!! We need to stop talking about each other, and really learn to love our fellow sisters.

2. No Money, No Honey
3. Exchanging Sexual dealings for loving
4. Looking for Mr. Right in the Wrong Places
5. Using your finance to maintain his romance
6. Staying on, although the respect is gone
7. Loving the "Married Bachelor"
8. Emotional dependency, plus unplanned pregnancy
9. decent proposal/Indecent disposal
10. Getting to the Church before time

One or more of these chapters will wake you up and make you take stock of your life. Take stock of the choices you have made, and hopefully you will make better choices in the future. This is an excellent book!!!

Wonderful! It was like talking with my sister!

This is a wonderful book for any African-American woman who has dealt with abusive and rocky relationships with black men.
After the author discuss various senarios, at the end of the book she wonderfully points out that we should not go through excessive changes to get men in high places. We need to love ourselves first, and then everything else will fall in place. In God's time.
With a lot of self-love, we can become women of high achievement, on our own! On our own merit! Scary, but I know it to be true. I was once one of the sisters outlined in this author's book. I had the have the man with the BIG JOB, the BIG CAR, the BIG BANK ROLL, ETC. I learned the hard way, instead, of basking in someone else's spotlight create your own! The author brought this point out thorougly.
I never met the author, but it was like my best girl friend was speaking to me. I will definitely recommend this book to my sister-friends, nieces, and other women. I will also buy this author's next book! Actually, I look forward to its publishing.
One last thing, this author lost her mom at an early age through the hands of her mother's abusive boyfriend. She actually witnessed her mother's murder. Through time and her father's love, she made it through. Just think, that alone should be encouragement for us all. This is a strong sister, a survivor! YOU GO GIRL!!

The result is a kind of tenderized Tao Te Ching. Lexical problems and controversies surrounding the source materials of the Tao Te Ching, Griff asserts, make even the best of translations subjective interpretations, calling his new version ``...merely an outright declaration of the way the source material has always been treated.'' Based upon nine translations of the ancient text, Grigg's work is also a reflection of the eclecticism typical of Western dabblers in Eastern mysticism-a hodgepodge of loose interpretations and manipulated conventions. But part of the appeal of such a work, as here, is the ability to retain the enigmatic while rendering the text highly readable. Thus, while this is never billed as a scholarly work, readers will want to remain mindful that this rendering provides access not so much to the Tao Te Ching as to one individual's view of what constitutes contemporary ``essential'' wisdom and that that distinction is an important one.

people are received as they are.

The good and the bad

are accepted,

So acceptance is nourished.

The honest and the dishonest

are trusted,

So trust is nourished.
Thoughtlessly,

the sage receives the world as it is.

And with an inner stillness,

becomes one with the wholeness of all.

Fabulous introduction to the Tao Te Ching

This is a great book for two reasons. The first reason is Ray Grigg's translation of the Tao Te Ching itself. There will never be a definitive English translation, but Ray Grigg manages to bring it alive for modern Western readers. He ignores the literal sense of the original Chinese in order to convey the sense and underlying meaning of the message.
Secondly, his description of the history of the Tao Te Ching and the difficulties in translating the text provide a further valuable insight. I highly recommend this book.

Best translation I've read

I've studied many translations of the Tao Te Ching and this is the very best in my opinion. Grigg takes a few small liberties with the original texts but his version makes more sense to the Western reader. Through the years I've re-read this book over and over and it is life-changing every time. As a "student of Zen", this book also gives some insight into the foundations of what eventually has come to be Zen Buddhism. If I was ever stranded on a desert island and had to choose only one book, it would be this version by Grigg without a doubt.

One amazing story! I need more ASAP

This series continues to get better and better, and Fallen Crest Home is no different! This book is full of drama, angst, deceit, sex, and so much more!

With Sam and Mason back home for the summer, you'd think they'd be able to relax a little, but with Annalise just across the street, and old enemies vying to take down the Kade brothers, things are anything but relaxing for these two. Sam is on edge doing everything in her power to try to ignore the fact that she's in the same town as her mother, while trying to spend time with Heather, Mason and everyone else, while trying to figure out why people from her past want to reconnect with her. Mason is also in the twilight zone as well with his father wanting him to play nice with former enemies and while completing his summer internship.

Watching Sam trying to deal with her demons and everything going on in her life was hard to watch, she puts so much stress on herself, but at the same time she's so strong, she just doesn't know when to ask for help. She's been hurt and has gone through so much in her life, she internalizes so much but thankfully she has people now that truly care for her. Mason always knows what to do or say to make things better and I loved watching how protective of her he was again in this book. Did she put him and everyone in the bad situations they got themselves into this time around? Yes.. but would they have ended up in the situations anyway? Probably, but she held her own and I loved that about her.

I will admit, things weren't the same in this book until Logan and Nate showed up. Things are never the same in a Fallen Crest book unless both Kade brothers and Nate are around. Too serious I think, you always need the crazy Logan to lighten things up and give you the laughs when things are getting too serious in the book. I love Logan and I was happy when he showed up in this book to add some humor when things got a bit too tense at times. Seeing all these amazing characters from previous books coming together and seeing characters I thought we wouldn't have to deal with again show up in this book was interesting to say the least. I mourned with Sam the loss of a friendship I thought we had already mourned and watching that play out again was hard as a reader, I wanted it to work out and at the same time I didn't, I was just as conflicted as Sam with that one!

No matter all the drama and craziness that was going on in this book, the one thing that held true was the bond and love between Mason and Sam. These two are a power couple that no one can come between, except maybe themselves. I have a feeling that book seven is going to be interesting, especially with decisions that Sam made for herself in this book that she didn't communicate with Mason and how this book ended. The ending of this book was EPIC and I can't wait to see where Tijan takes us next with this amazing set of characters. If you're a lover of the Fallen Crest Series you MUST pick this one up today! So much happens in this book that will have you going OMG and will have you remembering why you fell in love with these characters to begin with!

Fallen Crest: Where the Kade brothers ruled. Jealousy is a bitch.

Mason and Sam (tighter than ever) return to Fallen Crest for the Summer because Mason got some big internship with his dad's company. What Mason doesn't realize is the internship comes with strings. (Okay, so James Kade isn't evil, but he's not a saint either. ) Unfortunately, Sam returns to old habits. Analise being so close to her messes with her head big time. She's always waiting for Analise's next evil scheme.

The wedding from hell is coming up. Mason/Logan will be in it. Satan is marrying the devil herself. Sam doesn't even want to attend. Confronting the devil is not in her summer plans.

Sam has a ton of baggage thanks to her mother. The one thing Analise and James did right is bring Logan, Mason and Sam together. Sam considers Mason and Logan her family. Don't get me wrong, she adores her dad and step mom. She even likes Mark. Sam's "Fallen Crest baggage" is gigantic, but she's not the same passive girl. Sam was less passive, more whiny. When people she wants to forget re-enter her life, she's ready. It's a small town, it was only a matter of time. Friends who ditched her, and cheating ex-boyfriends come with the territory. No one can penetrate the bubble she lives in with Mason, Logan and Nate. She's highly skeptical when a "friend" who abandoned wants to kiss and make up. Sam's a firecracker waiting for the short fuse to burn.

The first day of Mason's internship, he learns it isn't what it seems. Unfortunately, he has to follow whatever scheme James Kade has cooked up or he doesn't get the college credit.

Sadly, Mason's old enemies come out of the woodwork like cockroaches. It's no coincidence, his enemies love targeting Sam. Soft target and all. Fighting is second nature for the Kade brothers. A fight on camera would put Mason's football career in jeopardy. Mason will protect Sam fiercely, future be damned!

The "drama factor's" definitely kicked up a notch. No one's spared. Everyone had secrets and ulterior motives. I was highly entertained. Little by little, everything's uncovered. The book put me on edge, stole then broke my heart . I'm disappointed Logan wasn't in the book as much. He was off on a romantic adventure with Taylor and...his mother? Taylor, well she didn't understand the Fallen Crest dynamics. That was rather frustrating but she did knock some sense into hot-tempered Logan. Like Mason, he's a fierce protector of the woman he loves.

Ah, Logan. Always the comedian. Logan returned to Fallen Crest, and a huge mess. Logan, Mason, and Nate picked up where they left off, causing trouble. (With a little help from one of Sam's ex-friends) When the trio schemes drama follows. Will they ever learn? The answer is, I hope not.

I absolutely loved Fallen Crest Home. Definitely worth the wait!

Tijan does it again! Fallen Crest Home is full of action-packed drama, fighting, crazy mothers, twists and turns!

Just one word: AMAZING!

It's the summer before Mason's senior year at Cain U. He and Sam are back at Fallen Crest because he has an internship with his father. What they thought would be a nice summer with their friends turns out to be a summer full of threats, with new enemies and old enemies resurfacing.

I love the Fallen Crest series and I couldn't wait to read Fallen Crest Home. And it was definitely worth the wait! Fallen Crest Home is full of drama, twists, and suspense, with some funny scenes and the perfect amount of hot, steamy, sexy scenes. The story pulled me from the first page and I couldn't stop reading. And the ending? I can't wait to read Fallen Crest Forever!
I loved that Fallen Crest Home was told from Sam's and Mason's POVs, with a small part being told from Logan's POV. But I would love to have more from Mason's POV, especially the end.
A little note: I haven't read Logan Kade, Logan's book, yet and felt a little bit lost. If you can, read Logan's book after Fallen Crest University and Fallen Crest Home. It will help understand who Taylor is and you'll know what happened between them.

Sam grew to be a strong, independent, fierce young woman. She's very protective of the ones she loves, especially Mason. But coming back to Fallen Crest is affecting her a lot. She wants to be with Mason for the rest of her life. He's her soul mate. But she still doesn't know what she wants to do in the future and her feelings are all over the place. And with Annalise and Beck back in her life? She's got a lot to figure out.
I love Mason! He is so fiercely protective of the one he loves and will do anything to protect them, even if it means putting his NFL career in jeopardy. I love how he isn't afraid to show how much he loves Sam and how sweet he is with her.

Once again, Tijan hit the jackpot with Fallen Crest Home! This book has an amazing story and awesome characters. It's so very well written that'll feel what Mason and Sam are feeling and you'll want more. I can't wait to read Fallen Crest Forever, especially what happened after that breathtaking cliffhanger!

Good story, poor grammar

I picked this book up for my 4 year old who does not read yet. He loves the story and the characters and wants to hear it several times a day. As a read-aloud story it is great fun and has a good level of science content; I was particularly pleased that it is up to date and names 8 planets only in the solar system, correctly identifying Pluto as part of the Kuiper belt. However, I cannot recommend this story as an early reader, as it constantly switches between present and past tense verbs with little or no reason. This is easy for me to correct while reading aloud, but not what I want my son to learn as he starts reading for himself.

The person who translated this book didn't do a good job in my humble opinion. It's repetitive. In addition, there are some mistakes. The only reason I am not giving this book one star is because there are a couple of good Chaplin quotations.

The story doesn't end and the information from the other Raintree books show/says the story changes who the lead characters are other members of the raintree family. I am guessing that the over all story of the fighting between families finish with the other two books but I would like to finish the love story of these two characters first. Over all I was very said by this purchase, wish i didn't buy it, and will not buy the rest.

I enjoy what Budge has written over the years. His style for me is one that is relateable. Despite the controversy surrounding him and his techniques when it comes to antiquities, his books provide a great insight into the realm of the ancient world.

A century old and biased to boot

Budge is known among Egyptologists today for being cited again and again by amateurs. His works—this one was originally published in 1901—are badly out of date, but they show up everywhere because they're out of copyright. The problem is still more serious when Budge discusses religion, the study of which changed dramatically in the mid- to late 20th century.

Egyptian Religion, a companion volume to this one, mostly covers aspects of Egyptian religion that Budge and his readers found sympathetic (i.e., those that resembled Christianity). This one is mostly about what he calls near the outset "gross and childish superstition"—a classic example of the way people use "religion" to refer to beliefs and practices that they like and "magic" for those they don't. The book lumps together all kinds of miscellaneous practices, as shown by the title of the last chapter: "Demoniacal Possession, Dreams, Ghosts, Lucky and Unlucky Days, Horoscopes, Prognostications, Transformations, and the Worship of Animals." Other topics covered include mummification and funerary rites, amulets, spells, and the power that the Egyptians ascribed to names, demonstrated with overlong quotations from ancient Egyptian stories.

Most of what Budge says isn't exactly wrong, but there are better and more recent books on the subject. Religion and Ritual in Ancient Egypt discusses all types of Egyptian religious practices. Bob Brier's Ancient Egyptian Magic is an unsystematic collection somewhat like this one, while Geraldine Pinch's Magic in Ancient Egypt and Maarten Raven's Egyptian Magic are a bit more thoughtful. To a greater or lesser extent, they all have problems defining magic, a problem tackled most convincingly in The Mechanics of Ancient Egyptian Magical Practice, an academic work that usefully discusses many types of ritual on the way to its conclusion. When discussing ancient Egypt, if there's any value to the term, "magic" is a synonym for the Egyptian word heka, a principle that is integral to Egyptian religious practice. Viewed in that light, it makes a certain amount of sense to call many of these practices "magic"—just not in the biased, haphazard way that Budge did it.
